1. Introduction
In the previous version of Hy.ly Source Attribution, the marketing manager needed to ask the web developer to insert the hyBeacon Master Script on the property website, this process time-consuming and error-prone.
Hy.ly has just released the Attribution Manager template that simplifies the installation process. With this new process, the marketing manager will be able to install
it
without changing a single line of code on the property website. Instead, the tag will be added to the GTM container.
In addition to the Attribution Manager template, the Event Tracking template helps generate useful reports for hyForms, hyTours, and Tour Site on Google Analytics.
This documentation will help the marketing manager install the GTM tags from Hy.ly and troubleshoot potential issues with the installation.
1.1. Source Attribution
Lead source attribution is the process of giving credit to different marketing campaigns that contributed to the accomplishment of a specific goal (such as a prospect scheduled for a tour, submitted the contact form, etc.).
A lead source is some additional metadata that attaches to the prospect’s record, and contains attributes from both Google analytics and affiliate tracking applications:
- Source (a UTM parameter)
- Medium (a UTM parameter)
- Campaign (a UTM parameter)
- Content (a UTM parameter)
- Term (a UTM parameter)
- Page URL
- Referrer
- Channel
The aforementioned lead source will be tracked automatically when you install the Hy.ly Attribution Manager tag to your GTM container.
1.2. Event Tracking
Event tracking is an advanced Google Analytics feature that allows you to track a specific prospect’s interaction/activity with a web page element. For example:
- Downloading a file
- Submitting a form
- Viewing a video
- Clicking on a link
However, it requires some technical knowledge to understand how to set up tags, triggers, and variables.
Hy.ly has simplified the event tracking installation for hyForms, hyTours, Tour Site. You don’t need to set up a bunch of tags, triggers, and variables, you just need to install the Hy.ly Event Manager Tag to your GTM container.

4. Troubleshooting Source Attribution with Hy.ly Assistant
Source attribution can be problematic for many business owners. And multifamily properties, unfortunately, are not immune to this troubling trend.
Multifamily properties are often unaware of or unable to identify the source of a majority of their leads. Properties also tend to feel that the Internet isn’t really a driver of many of these engagements.
With the help of the Hy.ly Assistant extension, marketing managers can easily check if the source attribution is working properly when the prospect comes from a Search Engine, Internet Listing Service, Paid Ads, Social Networks, etc.
